Take-Home Hell

I am once again in take-home hell.

Classes with take-home finals always seem like a really good idea at the time... not so much when you're actually writing them.

I have my First Amendment Religion Clauses final due tomorrow (the more I write, the more I realize how incredibly easy it would be for someone to figure out who I am and totally throw my anonymity out the window... ohhhh well). It's taking me FOREVER to get it done. Seriously I am getting so sick of working on it that I just want to turn in the crap I have written and say "forget it."

Obviously I'm not going to do that, I'm just going to bitch and moan about it on here in between working on questions.

My cousin is a 2L at another law school and got me an outline from someone at her school who has taken the same class... it's actually really helpful, so I'm hoping that will speed things up towards the end here.

I have a LOT of work to do before this thing is due by 5:00 tomorrow... I better get back at it!
Hope everyone else's studying is going well... almost doneee! yay!

Have you seen my mind? It's lost.

So much to get done this week and next! ah! I cannot wait for this stupid semester of dumb classes to be over with... Last semester was so much better.

But anyway... I'm not quite there yet. I've got this take home final due on Thursday and I have so much other crap to do. Laundry, grocery shopping, etc.
I feel like I am doing a ton of stuff but not getting anything done... anyone else know the feeling? Maybe I should just go back to sleep...

I'll try to post something most interesting throughout this week, but until then I'll just continue to run around like a chicken with my head cut off.

Good luck to everyone else studying and wrapping up this semester! We're almost there, whooohoo!!!

"Born to Prosecute"

Today I had my oral argument for my appellate brief, which means I am now FINISHED with all legal writing classes for my law school career! YAHOOO!!!!

It went pretty well. And I got to wear pearls and a suit and look pretty and professional, which is always fun. Neither my "co-counsel" nor our opposition were very stellar, so I think they made me look good. They weren't bad, and actually probably had a better command of the issues/caselaw than I did, but they all seemed kinda nervous and fidgety while arguing.

After everyone gave their arguments, the judges (our professor and two other judges) gave comments and critiques. They mostly had positive things to say and a couple pointers. When they got to me one of the judges said that he and the other judge like to write notes to each other during the arguments and that as soon as I started talking he wrote "Born to Prosecute" to the other judge.

Not to toot my own horn... but I was pretty excited about that, since that's exactly what I want to do. It makes me really excited to be a real-life lawyer and get to wear pearls and pretty suits every day and stand up in courtrooms and talk (assuming I ever get a job, which I understand is making a pretty large assumption).

Now that that's done, I have two classes finished for this semester and three more to go. Wheee!!!

Lorena Bobbitt

Okay so I accidentally got a little tipsy tonight after class and missed Oprah (I know you're all shocked that I was drinking instead of doing something I said I was going to or was supposed to do, whooopsies)

but anyway, so I was reading about the whole lorena bobbitt thing on oprah's website earlier... :

"In the early '90s, a young couple from Virginia was involved in a story that many people will never forget. In June 1993, 24-year-old Lorena Bobbitt became known as the woman who cut off her husband's penis with a carving knife."

Based on that sentence alone I have a couple things to say:
1) I've been cheated on. I'd cut the assholes penis off too. He more than likely deserved it. Does that make me crazy? Probably. But I've never claimed to NOT be crazy.
2) 24 YEARS OLD. I turn 24 in one week (May 1st... email me at legallyfabulous1@gmail.com if you'd like my address to send presents!! j/k. . . . sort offfff). 16 years ago when this happened i thought it was some old and mature woman. i am about to be 24. i am neither old nor mature.
3) it was a carving knife? who knew?! of course i was 8 years old at the time, so I don't think details were very pertinent to me.

p.s. in other exciting news the boy that i've had a crush on for a while g-chatted me today!!! I'm not getting my hopes up about anything coming of it, but still... that's something to get excited about for today, right?
p.p.s. - today was my last day of classes as a 2L!!! WHOOOO!!!!

i promise to watch the show at a later date and tell you guys all about it!

Oprahhhhh

This week I have watched about 10 times more TV than I usually do... I've been watching the Daily Show and Colbert, and then switching over to Oprah which is on at 11:00PM here in Chicagoland.

As I'm sure most of you know, Oprah previews future shows during the show you're watching. Last night and tonight I've been giddy about her Thursday show:

"Notorious Newsmakers of the 90’s – Where are they now?"

"15 years after the scandal"
Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan

and "1993 shocker" - Lorena Bobbitt!!!

OMG I can't wait... What the hell has Lorena Bobbitt been doing for the last 16 years?!
I mean really, who is going to hire someone who is famous for being a weenie whacker?!
Surely she's not employed!
I'm sure I could google it and find out where she is now, but I'd rather wait until tomorrow's Oprah...

Take-Home Final

Wednesday Classes are done for the semester, whoohooo!!!

I got my take-home final for my first amendment religion clauses class today. It's due next Thursday.
It's not too incredibly difficult, but I think it's going to take a lot of time.
Which is going to be a problem because I don't exactly have a whole lot of time.
I have my oral argument on Friday on my appellate brief, then I'm going down to the alma mater this weekend to catch the spring football game (whooo!), which is going to put me totally out of commission for Saturday and Sunday (isn't it amazing the hangovers you get when you drink like you're still in college?!). So basically that just gives me Monday and Tuesday...
Tuesday night is the Britney Spears concert (AhhhH!! So excited!!!), and I know that's going to be totally out of control so I'm counting on being pretty worthless on Wednesday, and then it's due!

Also in that time I need to be outlining for my finals on the 5th and 7th!

Sooooo... now that I've just given a laundry list of how "busy" I am (I hate it when people say how "busy" they are... F off, we're all busy), I'm going to watch some TV and snuggle up with my pup.
Typical.

Trying to Start Outlining...

I'm trying to start outlining, but I just want to go to sleep!

I always sleep a lot right before finals... well actually now that I think about it, I sleep a lot anytime I'm stressed and/or depressed.

Actually, let's back up here... I sleep a lot. Period. BUT, I sleep EXTRA during times that I'm stressed or depressed. I think it's because instead of worrying about it I'd rather sleep through it.

I wish I was more productive... I am SO not the stereotypical caffeinated law student spending 18 hours a day in the library. More like 18 hours in bed. Whoopsies.

Anyone else find themselves sleeping through finals?

Last Week of Classes!!!

How in the world is this already the last week of classes?!

Today I had my last mediation class.. WHOOHOOO! I am so excited to be done with that class. Also up this week - my appellate brief oral argument. Once that's over, I'll be done with legal writing for the rest of my law school career.... whooohoooooooo!!!!

I didn't mention that I was applying for it, but I applied for my school's death penalty clinic. After meeting with the director last week, I was offered a spot!
I am really excited about it... I think it is going to be an awesome experience and that I will learn a lot. Of course I've said previously that I am pro death penalty, so I think that will make this even more interesting.

It's going to keep me plenty busy for 3L year and hopefully I'll get a little bit of lawyer-life experience too.

Now, if I can just get through these last couple weeks and finals!

Peace Out Appellate Brief... I hardly knew ya.

Everyone Should Pay Taxes

"It's Bad For Our Democracy to Exempt Half the Country"

Good article.
Read it. Think about it. Comment if you wish.

(Wow. I'm a real Republican Rhonda today, aren't I?)

Nearing the end...

Nearing the end of my second semester of second year... ah!

I have my final paper due for my mediation class tomorrow, and then that class is finished. Whooohooo!!!

My appellate brief is due on Thursday, then the only thing left for legal writing is my oral argument next Friday, but I'm not too concerned about that.

Essentially after Thursday, I'm done with 2 of my classes. Whooohoo!!

Then next Wednesday I get my First Amendment Religion Clauses final, and it's a week later.

Then the Britney Spears concert and my birthday! Whooohooooo!!!!!

Then two finals on May 5 and May 7.... so far away, yet coming so soon... yikes!

SO much work to do, and I know the next 3.5 weeks are just going to fly!

Then of course... summer. And I have no summer job. Ugh. I'm still going abroad at the end of the summer, but what the heck am I going to do for the first half?!

No time to worry about that now. For now I need to get this mediation crap finished and get to bed so I can get up early tomorrow and get working on legal writing. Thrilling!

Random Thoughts...

As I sit here watching my third episode of "48 Hours on WE" in a row, I am doing some thinking... They keep showing pictures of these murdered girls....

How do they choose which pictures to show?

I keep thinking of Natalee Holloway's disappearance coverage on Nancy Grace... I was absolutely fascinated by that story. Nancy Grace showed pictures of her at graduation, pictures of her on the football field in her dance uniform, etc.

If something happened to me, what pictures would be shown of me?

Yummy Salads...

So I've been doing Weight Watchers since the 1st of the year. I've lost almost 15 pounds so far (yay!), and am hoping to lose another 15-20.
Since doing weight watchers, I've been eating tons of fruits and veggies, and lots of salads. I've never been a big salad eater, but I've learned to love them. I usually only eat ranch dressing on salad (I know, SO bad for you). I have switched to "light" ranch, which is a little better, but still not the best.

A couple weeks ago I was thrilled to go to my grocery store in Chicago and see that they had Dorothy Lynch dressing in stock! My ex-boyfriend's mom is obsessed with Dorothy Lynch, but I've never seen it anywhere other than Texas or Kansas, so of course when I did I had to grab a bottle! It's a French style dressing that is just SO yummy! I looove it. It totally tastes homemade.

So if anyone out there is looking for a way to make veggies more bearable, look for some Dorothy Lynch dressing! On their website they also recommend using it as a marinade for pork chops... I'm so going to give that a try once we hit summer and grilling out season!

Good Morning!

Good Morning from Elle Woods! This is how my goofy dog is currently relaxing while I try to work on my appellate brief so I have SOMETHING to talk about with my professor at my mtg this afternoon. What a ham.

(no, I did not pose her)
(yes, she lays like this quite frequently)
(I assume it's comfortable. I asked her, she won't really answer me)

I'm in law school because I'm a problem solver!

K I thiiiink I solved my problem. March 20th was when I added my cute new background to my blog, which erased my old tracker code!

I added it back in, so everything should be fixed now.

Really though? I need to be working on my appellate brief for tomorrow, not worrying about why no one reads my blog. Ugh.

No one likes me.

:(

My google analytics page says I have had ZERO visits since March 20th. Normally I'd believe it, but I've had a couple comments, so I know that can't be true!
Is something wrong with my analytics account, or does no one like me?

Law School can be funny, sometimes...

My professor tonight, while referring to the book he wrote and assigned us to read said this:

"How does it read? Maybe it's just me, but I find myself falling asleep when I read it."

Ha. I'd imagine he's right... if I'd read I could tell you for sure.

Congratulations to me!

Whooo, I actually had a productive day!
I have to be productive again tomorrow... I'm doing the first part of my final mediation project (thank the Lord... I am going to be SO glad to be done with that class), then have a TON of reading to do for my night class tomorrow night.

Then Thursday, another day of productivity! I have a meeting with my legal writing professor about my appellate brief on Thursday, and I've got to have a lot done before then... That's due next week, then I have two weeks of nothing much to get ready for finals.... (except for obviously a trip to the alma mater for the spring football game, Britney Spears concert, and my birthday, whoohooo!).

Very Very busy month ahead of me... but the good news is that there's also lots of exciting stuff going on, and one month from today, I'll be done with finals! Wahoo!
(trying to concentrate on the excitement of it instead of panicking about the massive amounts of work I need to do before then...)

Hope everyone had a wonderful and productive Tuesday!

Letters

Dear Michigan State,

Thanks for being an embarassment to the Big 10 and providing me with the worst National Championship game I've ever seen.

XOXO,
Fab

Dear "Fabulous,"

Really? How fabulous is it to be drunk 5 days in a row? You are not in college anymore. Grow up.

XOXO,
The World.

Dear World,

But I really like to drink? And drinking is a lot more fun than reading for class or studying or working out or cleaning my condo or acknowledging that I'm a law student.

K, that's all for now. See you tomorrow. I'll be sober. Promise.

XOXO,
Fabulously Wasted.

Raise Your Hand if You Were WAY Overserved at Law School Prom

Ugh.

I hate myself today.

The boy that I have a big crush on was texting me all night after prom to hang out. Where was I? At home. Because I SUCK.

I didn't even partake in the ice cream sundaes for dessert last night. WHO AM I?!?!?!

I'm going back to bed, and have no plans to emerge until tomorrow around noon.

Boring.

I just realized that I haven't written anything all week... of course this isn't really surprising, because I pretty much haven't done anything all week.

I have had some really good workouts... that counts for something, right?
I went out last night... got drunk. Laid around all day. Now it's 9:39 PM, and I'm back in bed, watching Entourage DVD's. What a tough life, huh?

I'm not going out tonight... law school prom tomorrow. Ha. Last year I showed up to the pre-party violently hungover (something new and different), and was pretty miserable throughout the night. This year I plan on spending Sunday violently hungover, and tomorrow just really really drunk, so I am staying in tonight.

I just thought about doing some reading. Then I realized all my books are at school, so I can't. Darn. I really wanted to read. (sarcasm)

Next week I'm really going to get my life together... I swear! I at least have to do some stuff for classes and for a meeting with my legal writing teacher, so I can't blob around all week. Bummer.

Hope everyone else had a more productive week than myself!
