Dallas!

Well, Dirk and I survived 15 hours in the car with each other and have made it home to Dallas. The drive wasn't too bad, except for a stretch of highway in between Memphis and Little Rock that is closed because of construction and we sat in traffic without moving for over an hour... I thought Dirk was going to chew through the window and leap out and run away from me at that point.

We had been home for about 35 minutes on Saturday night when Dirk fell in my parents pool. I thought I was going to pee my pants from laughing so hard. He and Satin were running around the backyard running full speed in the direction of the pool... Satin stopped when she got to the edge and Dirk just kept on running, HA. I think he maybe thought it was like being at the dog beach and he could just run in and it would gradually get deeper? Instead he was completely underwater and drenched. He managed to get out of the pool (thank God he fell in near the steps!), but Satin just looked at him like "what the hell are you doing?!?!?"

I am going to be in Dallas for a little while... we found out a few weeks ago that my mom's cancer is back. So she had surgery last week and is meeting with her oncologists today and tomorrow to come up with the radiation/chemo plan and schedule.
So I'm here for now and possibly through the holidays... just trying to be flexible and do what I can to help out. Apparently this includes cooking Thanksgiving dinner. I already checked... Sonic is open on Thanksgiving. Just covering all my bases.

  1. Praying for your mama, and you. I can definitely relate to having a parent that is sick, and taking on more responsibility...that's been this semester of law school. I love the story of Satin and Dirk :) Have a great Monday...and go treat yourself to a cherry limeade from Sonic. oxo

  7. Cancer fucking sucks. I'm sorry that stupid crap is back and I'm hoping your mom can kick it's butt and gets it back out of all of your lives soon.

And I hope next time he falls in the pool (please let there be a next time) that you get it on video. Stay prepared.

  8. Sending good thoughts to you and your mom. You're a great daughter and I'm sure she is happy to have you home - that alone will lift her spirits. And if you weren't enough, she has Dirk running straight into the pool for extra comic relief:) Happy Thanksgiving!

  9. Nothing but big glittery hearts to your mom (meaning wishes of a strong body and speedy recovery, not like actual glitter will do shit to cancer). I know she appreciates having you around through this!!!

  13. Welcome home to the DFW area! I'm so sorry to hear about your mom and I'm so glad you can be here with her. If you ever have the time and inclination to drive over to the "FW" of the DFW, we'd love to have you over or I'd be happy to meet you somewhere for margaritas! (or both; you could come over, meet the fam and then we could abandon them for frozen concoctions).

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours- hope the cooking is going well!
