Sometimes being an adult sucks. A lot of the time, actually. But in an effort to look at the positive, I'd like to address the times it doesn't suck.
Best things about being a post-college adult with no significant other or children:
I can have McDonald's for every meal every single day if I choose to do so.
I can buy booze. I can drink said booze whenever I want to (for the most part).
If I don't want to be your friend, I don't have to.
I get to choose what I want to read. And if I don't like it, I can stop reading it.
If I have $100 left at the end of the month and decide I'd rather buy a pair of shoes or overpriced yoga pants than groceries, I can.
What are your favorite things about being an "adult"?
(and of course I use the term in the loosest sense of the word possible, for obvious reasons)
Coming home to an empty, quiet house.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I drink when I want. I do love buying what I want with my last few dollars (another benefit of being a "single" adult).
Not having your parents know your every move.
Happy Adulthood, LF! Do what you want and what's right for you, always.
I can stay up as late as I want every night!
ReplyDelete(Of course, I always wind up regretting it the next day... guess my parents were right, ha.)
I love it! I was just saying to my husband the other day..."now why was I in such a hurry to grow up and be an adult?" It does suck sometimes. I like the part about being friends...or not.
ReplyDeleteI feel like most of the best parts come with downsides. For example:
ReplyDelete(1) upside: I can just go out and adopt a puppy or a kitten or a baby lamb any freaking time I please, and I don't have to justify it to my parents. downside: I have to take care of said animal all by myself.
(2) upside: I can no longer be a teen mom, so I'm no longer worried about getting pregnant and shaming my family. downside: I can't be on 16 and Pregnant (sads for me) and oh wait, fertility decreases as I get older.
The only unmitigated upside is having disposable income with no oversight.
Being able to loudly shame teenagers who are acting like hooligans.
ReplyDeleteWalking around in my underpants when I'm at home.
Singing loudly to myself in inappropriate situations and not giving a shit.
In short, doing everything that my mom did/does that used to mortify me.
i love not having to clean my room, make my bed, and being able to stay up as long as i want to. i can leave all the lights on, touch the thermostat, and eat junk food ALL THE TIME.
ReplyDeleteYes, all of those things! No one bitches at me to immediately put my clean laundry away or clear my dishes the second I'm done eating. Amazing.
DeleteOh, control of the thermostat - Yes!
ReplyDeleteYou don't get in trouble for shit anymore. I mean, you CAN but not, like, by your parents.
ReplyDeleteYES. The only way my mom can get mad at me is if I tell her about something that I did.
DeleteI can watch as much trashy tv as I want and no one cares. Well, except for my husband.... Darn.
ReplyDeleteThings I love about being an adult (I am 36):
ReplyDeleteI no longer care whether or not my peers like me.
I can buy whatever I want at the grocery store.
I can stay up as late as I want.
I do not have to do my "chores." If there are dishes in the sink it doesn't matter because I'm the only one who has to deal with it.
