RIP Sweet Ellebaby

I had to make the tough decision to let Elle Woods go. I'll miss her tons, but I'm glad she's not sick anymore. She was more loved and spoiled in 4.5 years than most dogs are in 15.

I hope doggie heaven has comfy couches and giant dog beaches.

Give your 4-legged companions an extra hug for me today.

  3. OMG I originally found your blog because of your Great Dane and although I hardly ever post I had to today. What happened? I am so sad and I'm sure you are besides yourself. I loved hearing about your adventures with Elle. My Kasha (who will be 10 years old in January) send our prayers and thoughts to you during this sad time. Danes are so different than other dogs and only another dane lover can understand what you are going through at this time.

  16. Oh no! I am so sorry. I'm going to give my 10-year old dane, Eleanor, a big hug tonight (even though she'll give me the "Sheesh Mom. Give me some personal space" look.) I rescued my baby when she was seven and I know that we're on borrowed time now due to some huge lumps in her mammory glands.

I hope you'll be with your family this Christmas to help you through this rough time.

  26. I'm so sorry for you loss. Losing a pet is a terrible thing to go through, especially when we have to make the decision. But you put her first and that's the most selfless thing we can do as owners. You were such an amazing dog momma - you inspired me to be better. And I did give extra snuggle time to my pup this morning before work in Elle's honor. Thinking of you.

  27. Legally Fab - I am so sorry for your loss. I had to make that choice 2 days before Christmas about 4 years ago. Its so so so hard to make an adult decision like this - it was a selfless thing to do, and I can only echo what TUWAVBV says - you are a great doggy mom, and you did the right and selfless thing. Lots of virtual hugs and doggie heaven indeed has beaches & comfy couches. I choose to believe that it also has endless supply of greenies, sleeping in the bed and steaks. Lots of love from Florida...

  28. Goodness, that has to be one of the hardest decisions to make. You made a selfless one, for sure. Prayers your way during this time.

  30. I am so, so sorry to hear about your loss. I can only imagine the feeling of losing such a beloved part of the family and my heart sinks every time I think that one day I'll have to say goodbye to my own pups. I'm sure this was an extremely difficult decision to make, but it was an extremely selfless thing to do. I do believe there is a doggie heaven for our four legged friends and I'm sure Elle is having a grandiose time there :-)

  66. I stumbled upon your blog from PIPM and loved reading about your dog (since I am a fellow large breed dog lover myself).

It's definitely heart-breaking when you lose a pet but knowing that the suffering is gone and that they are in a much better place is very reassuring.

After I put down my 14 year old black lab in early 2009, I knew I needed another companion and by the end of the 2009 I purchased not one but 2 black labs. On our car ride home from the breader, I told them that they have big shoes to fill!

I hope that in the future you'll get another great dog to love the same.
