For those of you who don't know - from www.crossfit.com:
CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.
The only time I've ever had any real success with weight loss over the years has been when lifting weights with a personal trainer. I say with a personal trainer because I never lift weights on my own. I know how, I just won't do it. I don't know why, since I know that's the only thing that works for me, I just don't do it.
SO I signed up for CrossFit. It's a lot of money - this intro month class is $225, in addition to what I'm already paying for my regular gym membership per month. But I think it's going to be worth it, especially if I lose some weight! And when you think about how much a personal trainer costs, it's really not that much money at all.
I weigh and measure myself every Wednesday (I used to post about it but just keep it to myself now), but I will definitely be reporting if I have any successes while doing CrossFit!
Anyone ever tried CrossFit? Love it? Hate it? Love/Hate it?
(if I don't blog tomorrow it's because I either died at CrossFit or my arms are so sore I cannot type)
good luck! I'm way to scared to try crossfit- i think i'd die haha
ReplyDeleteI've never done it but a friend of mine owns a local Crossfit location. He tries to stuff Crossfit (and their diet) down my throat whenever he can which pretty much means I never want to try it! I'm curious what you think though. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try CrossFit, but it scares me. Those people are intense. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMy cousin has been doing CrossFit for several months now and is obsessed with it... It seems a little hardcore for me, but she's had great results.
ReplyDeleteI tried crossfit once and liked it. You will feel amazing after.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that has helped me lose my law school weight has been Bikram Yoga.
Good luck! I've never done Crossfit but have a few friends who did and saw great results.
ReplyDeletethis is my first time commenting, though i think you're hilarious and read often...
ReplyDeletecrossfit is SO HARD! my friends back home do it and have lost a ton of weight - they look awesome - but i'm telling you it is HARD! i did it once and could not walk out of the building. a big component is the crazy "paleo" diet they do as well, which i could never do because oddly enough it doesn't include chocolate...
good luck!
good luck! my gf @LookItsBrooke is WAY into CrossFit and has a to die for body bc of it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! Let us know how it goes!
ReplyDeleteI tried it, but it's not for me. I think what mostly turned me off was not the workout themselves, but the mindset of the people at my gym. They were very much like, "crossfit is the only workout that works, everything else is stupid, and so are you."
ReplyDeleteWhile I think it can be effective, my concern is if it is sustainable. From what I have seen one small injury takes you out, and the weight comes back. Seems like a blend of CF and old fashioned cardio/weights would be effective with less extreme stress on your body.
I guess I'm a "lurker" but I had to comment on this one. I'm starting Crossfit next month once I move to Chicago and I'm super nervous!! I've done the workouts before and I loved them, even though I couldn't put on my coat later that night. There is cardio - rowing, runs, plus doing the workouts for time makes them cardio. The diet isn't all that bad, my boyfriend and I follow it about 75% of the time. You won't miss grains/starches/dairy at dinner, especially after a workout and you'll see if/how you're able to fit it into your life. I've met people who are so "Crossfit or Die! This is life!!" and that's a huge turnoff, as it would be for any activity but if you find your gym is like that then go find another one! There are lots of normal people who do it and I like it more than a regular gym because of the competetive edge and the encouragement/team-like spirit I've encountered. It doesn't seem like anyone is judging, most people can't do a pull up when they walk in the door and had to work up to it the same as the newbies will :) Good luck and keep us posted!!
ReplyDeletePS - totally cost effective, most classes are small and you end up with the trainer's attention for a good amount of the time.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried cross-fit, but I know people who have and love it. It makes me nervous because it sounds really tough. On Thursday I'm trying bar method in the loop. I hear that's another good class. I also have better weight-loss results when lifting weights, so I've been trying to get better with doing it on my own.
ReplyDeleteI'm telling you, seriously, if it works for you and you want something that will keep working and cost a bit less, try krav maga with me. We could go together and kick the shit out of each other. It's soooo therapeutic.
ReplyDeleteMy boss does it. He's in his 40's and has seen a huge difference after the classes.
ReplyDeleteThe diet is hyper intense though.
Did you survive? I have a friend with a kick-ass body who teaches Crossfit, and when I asked to come to one of her classes, she gave my flab the once over and said "You, uh, aren't quite ready."
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I am getting caught up! You must post your thoughts. It's definitely not for everyone, BUT give it a full couple weeks before evaluating it. I am so glad so far you are ... and I have loved it for the last year and a half!!!
