because when you graduate, take the bar, pass the bar, and are STILL unemployed the following January, your ridiculous parents are going to make you run ridiculous errands.
This is exactly what happened to a friend of mine. Although he graduated in May of 09, has passed the bar, and is eagerly awaiting employment, none has come his way just yet. So yesterday, when I received an e-mail titled "Why did I have to drive to St. Louis today?", I knew it was going to be a good one.
You see, THIS is why he had to drive to St. Louis:
His dad (pictured) collects M&M figurines. He found the elusive blue man on ebay in St. Louis, the missing piece to complete his collection. It would cost $500+ to ship, but when you have an unemployed son, why not make him drive the TEN HOURS round trip to St. Louis to pick it up?!No, I'm not joking about any of this. I was DYING laughing when I got the e-mail. Dying.
The m&m man is now proudly displayed amongst his red, yellow, green, and blue brethren in their garage. I have requested a picture of them all together. Will post it as soon as I receive it.
Oh, and for those of you thinking about going to law school? YES, it really is that difficult to get a job. Don't go.
lmao...
ReplyDeletethat is hysterical!
ReplyDeleteOh man! Good thing I got a job when I did, I can only imagine the insanity that would have ensued if I'd kept living at home.
ReplyDeleteHysterical. Period.
ReplyDeleteThis was so funny!
ReplyDeleteLOL wow.
ReplyDeleteGood motivation.
ReplyDeletetoo funny!!!
ReplyDeleteYou made abovethelaw!
ReplyDeleteI just moved back with my parents after getting laid off.
ReplyDeleteI'm adding this to the list of reasoning not to go to law school I started on my own blog.
This is too funny! (but sad for the son who had to drive so far). Definitely motivation to get myself employed
ReplyDeleteThe pain is not confined to JD's. We recent MBA graduates are getting hosed just as bad. I couldn't handle the parental units, so I moved in with the grandmother. Try socializing with a dozen octogenarians from "garden club" on a weekly basis.
ReplyDeleteThat guy should have shopped for a better price instead. Unless that thing weighs 1000+ lbs, there's no way it should cost $500 to ship.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if your friend was volunteering his time and legal expertise at a worthy non-profit, his dad wouldn't feel like his son was free to serve as an errand boy. Is he doing ANYthing worthwhile with his time? I can't say I have much sympathy if not.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog for a while now and I just wanted to say thank you for this post! Not only was it funny, but as I've just decided that I won't be going back to law school, your closing comment really made me breathe a sigh of relief. I feel like I'm doing the right thing for a number of reasons, not even related to the job market but I appeciated that candid reminder. Best of luck!
ReplyDeletehahah. LOVE IT!!
ReplyDeleteI am passing this onto my law school friends!
haha
Anon @10:17: Even volunteer positions are hard to find. And, people who move back in with their parents are often moving across state lines, which means they're prohibited from legal practice until they take another bar exam and get admitted in the new state.
ReplyDeleteIn other words: Shut up about things you don't know about.
HAHAHA!
ReplyDelete:)
