Grades are in...

I don't think I've ever even written about grades on the ole bloggy, because really? who the hell cares?

However, this semester I made my best grades ever, and feel compelled to share that with you all. Whoo! Ha.
I even managed to make a B+ in Business Organizations.... How in the hell that happened, I will never know. That class was ridiculously hard and is a legit curved class. Sooo I make better grades in classes about corporate law than my criminal law classes.... this bodes well for my future.

However - in my humble 3L opinion, grades still don't matter for shit. The kids who have been making all A's since we were 1L's still don't have jobs for after we graduate. The kids who have been making C's since we were 1L's still dont' have jobs for after we graduate (yup, that's me! but hey! I got a B+ in Biz Orgs!!! B+++++!!!!!!!!).

The moral of the story (especially for you 1L's and 0L's) is simple: Don't try.

The kids who do the bare minimum and go out drinking and have fun (me!) have the same employment prospects as those who bust their asses in the miserable law library all day and night.
And when we are ALL unemployed 6 months from now, the kids who spent all of law school in the library are going to be way behind me as far as what bars to hang out at and who has drink specials on what night (hell0, we'll be unemployed! deals are a must!), etc.

And on that note, I'm off to spend my Saturday at CASA volunteer orientation. I figure if I'm not employed I might as well figure out some other ways to occupy my time/make the world a better place, etc.

  1. Congratulations on your great grades! I'm with you - when I was a 3L, I didn't give a shit about my grades since it didn't seem to impact my job prospects (and that was almost 7 years ago!). I don't know if you ever heard this before, but the running joke that I was told a million times in law school was that those who made the A's in school were the law professors, the judges made the B's, and the practicing lawyers made up the C's, D's and F's.

  3. Well put! A similiar, if not slightly altered moral from business school was work-hard, play hard. As long as one learned the fundamentals, there was no point in getting the 4.0 because it didn't really improve your post-MBA employment prospects. GPA factored very little into which MBA's from my class had jobs lined up and those who were stuck on their butts. Plus, I wouldn't trade anything for those crazy nights on the town bonding with my classmates.

  4. CASA volunteering is totally my back up plan for the no-job post law school dilemma. However, I plan on dressing waaay better than the current staff attorneys/volunteers.

On a side note, have you ever tried this stuff?
www.bellplantation.com - PB2. It's good and that is coming from a reformed pb-aholic. Takes a bit to get used to the taste but you can mix with the real thing as well and still cut tons of calories and fat.

  6. Congrats(?) on the B+!

My best grade, an A- came my last semester from Feminist Jurisprudence of all things.

As for finding ways to occupy your time while unemployed, I've got you one-upped. Sunday I'm going to compare kosher Makka Babies to Bagel Bites. ...It's a sad life.

  7. Here it is, a far worse way to spend your weekend than volunteering:

A side-by-side-by-side comparison of Bagel Bites, Maca Babies, and Smart Ones Cheese Pizza Minis.
