NYE 2k9

For a lot of 24-year-old single girls, New Year's Eve is about a couple things. Mainly:

And

To this 24 year old single girl? New Years Eve is about this:

If you haven't figured it out yet, yes, I'll be babysitting this evening. I babysit pretty much every New Years Eve.
This will probably come as a surprise to a lot of you, but I HATE holidays like New Years Eve and St. Patrick's Day. These are when all the idiots who never drink or party come crawling out of their lame holes and flood the bars that I like to be overserved in on random Tuesday nights. Nooooo Thank You.
It's also really expensive to go out on NYE. And I would rather spend my money on more important things like $600 pairs of shoes. Duh.

Last year I babysat for my neighbors across the street. I will be babysitting for them again this year, as well as their friends who are the same age. Four children from two families = 2x the money! Whooohoo!

Here are some pics from our ROCKIN' New Years Eve last year!

The evening started in matching sweaters and turtlenecks, sans pants. As do most evenings in the lives of Daniel and Stephen:

They then switched to their matching jammies, as they always do. Add in party hats, leis, and blowers, and you've got a PARTY!

Of course the boys split some fizzy apple juice while we rang in the east coast New Years with Dick Clark at 11PM.

One of my good friends actually babysat with me last year... We brought a couple of single serving Champagne bottles for us to drink while the boys had their sparkling juice (no worries, dear readers... the parents don't care and we only had to walk across the street to return home at the end of the evening).

It was a lovely way to ring in 2009 and I'm looking forward to doing it again tonight!

Hope everyone has a wonderful and SAFE New Years Eve!
XOXO

2009? Meh.

As the title of this post indicates, 2009 was a pretty "meh" year for me. As seems to be the theme in my life lately, if I look at my life on December 30, 2009, vs. December 30, 2008, not a whole lot has changed.
Instead of lamenting over how boring my life is (but seriously ya'll? My life? It's BORING). (Okay maybe I should admit here that I have full-blown ADHD and really my life is pretty hilarious and I'm really the only one who thinks it's boring, but anyway).

So here you are... 2009. A Year in Review:

- Probably the biggest thing that sticks out in my mind? I lost 20 pounds this year. WHOOO! It was up and down all year, and there is still more to go, but that's pretty huge. I started Weight Watchers on January 3, 2009, after watching a ton of episodes of Ruby on the Style Network, and 1 year later, I could almost be called a gym rat. Who woulda thought?

- I completed my 4th and 5th semesters of law school. THANK GOD ALMIGHTY! One more semester and I will be a law school graduate. Weirddddddd.

- I joined my school's death penalty clinic. This was by far the best thing I've done in law school. I learned more this semester than I did in 18 months working at a firm or the 2 previous years of law school.

- As part of my clinic, I visited my first ever client in prison. This included getting my car searched at the prison entrance, to a thorough pat down as I entered the building. It was not as weird or scary as I thought it would be. In fact it wasn't really scary at all. Of course that's probably because my client is a very quiet and shy man who is innocent of the crime he was convicted of. Maybe if I was visiting Hannibal Lector, I would have felt a little differently.

- I wrote actual motions and memorandum's of law that were filed in an actual case. Like an actual lawyer. WEIRD!

- I went to Europe!
I saw Rome (my favorite!)
Amsterdam...
Prague...
And Dublin!
Something I never thought I'd do... and honestly? Probably not something I'll ever do again. I am glad I went, don't get me wrong. But Europe is just not for me. I love America.

- I attended several weddings. And no funerals! 2009, FTW! The weddings were all beautiful, and lots of fun.

- I went an entire year unemployed. This was the first time I've been unemployed since the day I turned 16, and it lasted an entire year after I left my firm job in December 2008.
And I HATED IT. I HATE not making money. I HATE not having something to do every second of every day. Don't worry, I have an interview next week for a clerking position to keep me occupied for my last semester of school. (Keep your fingers crossed for me! I need the money and the mental stimulation!).

- Elle Woods gained 10 pounds! (this is big news for us)

- I did not date anybody. Meh. Better luck next year? Ha. It's not like I really TRIED to date anybody. It just didn't happen.

- I visited my cousin in Austin and she came to visit me in Chicago. This was big news. Our moms were good friends, as were our brothers, while we were growing up and we always HATED each other. Actually, she says that she didn't hate me, so apparently I was a bitch even as a wee one. We "re-united" via facebook and AIM over a mutual "wtf" of being in law school (she's a 3L as well), and became good friends. Hooray for friends, family, and family that become friends!

- I had my first real life blogger meetup! I met with up Working Girl Two, Jamie Lovely, Nicole, Jessica, Perks of Being a JAP, and more! Jamie and Working Girl Two hosted a pretty wine label party, and it was SO much fun! I was a little nervous to meet them, since I didn't even know what they looked like or who would be there, but it was awesome. My friends were way more nervous about me going than I was... and I'm pretty sure my mom would die if she knew I went to some girls house that I had never met before. Haha! Some of the girls had blogs I already read (Jamie, Perks of Being a JAP, Working Girl), and I met some new girls with wonderful and hilarious blogs that I've since began reading.
I also got to meet Daisy, JD, and I loooove her just as much in real life as I do on the internet! And I found out that one of my good law school friends is real life friends with Muffy Martini! It is a small, small blogging world!
I am definitely looking forward to meeting more blog/twitter friends in 2010! (Natalie from The Brocks Rock! and her twin sister Jennifer are coming to Chicago in May, over my 25th birthday weekend! I am SO excited to finally meet them in real life! We are going to have SO much fun!)

I think this covers the highlights. Like I said, LOTS to look forward to in 2010, including:
- more blogger/twitter in real life meetings
- Finally losing the last 10 pounds and getting a pair of Louboutins from my mom as a reward!
- an 8 day trip to Honolulu, Hawaii in February
- GRADUATION
- and hopefully - EMPLOYMENT!

Adios 2009... Welcome 2k10!

Christmas Goodies

Hi everyone! Just wanted to do a quick recap of my wonderful Christmas! (I've been sleeping 18 hours a day since I've been home, I really don't have anything else to talk about).

Here is sweet Satin being forced to wait outside while we ate our Christmas morning breakfast. Poor thing. :(
And here is Elle. If she could talk she would say "HELLO! Did you forget about me?!"
First gift - electric toothbrush! hahahaha. I've been asking for one of these for forever so I was actually really excited about it. I love it! Gotta keep those pearly whites blingin'...

Elle got an Illinois bandana! I love it... it just slips over her collar so I don't have to tie it (her neck is too big to tie a bandana on, poor thing). Now Elle can share in the Illini spirit too!
GO ILLINI!

Also got an Ipod Nano so I can go to the gym without having to have my phone on me... sometimes I just don't wanna be in contact with people, ya know?
The Garmin Forerunner!!!! I have only taken it out once so far (it's cold!!!), but I LOVE IT. It's seriously so cool and I'm so excited about it.
My mom had this cute picture of Elle painted for me... I love it!!! I need to find the perfect spot for it once I return to Chicago!
The brother got a snuggie...
Here is my brother, enjoying his snuggie and a glass of bourbon in a red solo cup at noon on Christmas Day. Ohhhh family....

And of course, the puppeteer!
Little Daniel LOVED his puppet theater from Santa... He put on a puppet show for me starring Elmo and a Dinosaur. (The Dinosaur ate Elmo. It was a tragedy).
He is just so cute I can't stand it.

And of course I couldn't leave you without sharing a funny g-chat convo:

me: did Santa bring you an engagement ring?
M: my boyfriend is jewish . . .

Christmas Traditions

Merry Christmas everyone!
I know a couple of you have posted about your family's Christmas traditions... my family doesn't really do anything special, but I have a fairly recent Christmas tradition that's pretty special to me, so I figured I'd write about it. Those of you who know me in real life or follow me on twitter know that I'm sort of obsessed with my neighbors. Stephen is 7 and Daniel is going to be 4 in 2 weeks. I started babysitting Stephen when we moved into our house across the street from them, in 2003, when he was 1. I always watch him when I'm home over breaks and summers from school, and got to be the first person besides family to meet Daniel the day he was born (I kept Stephen all that day while they were at the hospital). Stephen has been my little buddy forever (we've had "sleepovers" and love to go swimming!), and Daniel is no different! I cannot even believe he is going to be 4 in two weeks.

So anyway, about 4 years ago, the boys and I started our Christmas shopping tradition! We go to the Dollar Store on December 23rd or 24th and I help them pick out their gifts for each other, mom and dad, Nanny and G-Daddy, Uncle, and the dog and 2 cats. We have so much fun picking everything out... I absolutely adore watching them decide what to get everyone (and hear their reasons why!). Kids are SO funny. Also I think it's sweet to see young, innocent kids get excited about giving their gifts to their loved ones. I know they couldn't sleep waiting for Santa, but they were also SO excited to give their gifts. And that's half the fun!

So here are some pictures from our adventure:

Here is sweet Daniel, in the car, ready to go!
Daniel at the dollar store, pondering his decisions

The brothers making their decisions

After the shopping was done, Daniel wanted McDonald's and Stephen wanted Chick-Fil-A, so of course we had both! (Am I a good babysitter or what?!) Drove through McDonald's and took it in to Chick-Fil-A so they could play there.
Then later that night I babysat again while their parents went out to do some last minute shopping... here are the boys "helping" me wrap the presents.
So helpful, huh?

When the movie was over, Daniel did want to help though! Here he is holding the ribbon for me. :)
And this is Stephen's idea of help:
Stephen has turned into such a goober.
He cracks me up. He chose a ceramic bird from the dollar store for his grandmother (lucky Nanny, huh?), and as we were wrapping it up he looked at me, dead serious, and said "I picked that for Nanny because girls like breakable stuff and birds." Haha! Kids are so funny.

The goofy boys and all their wrapped gifts, ready to go under the tree!
Here is another picture of them at church for their Christmas pageant... how cute are they?!

And then one more picture... Daniel got a Puppet Theater from Santa that I helped put together at midnight on Christmas Eve. Can't wait to see how excited he is when he gets it!

So there is my favorite Christmas tradition!
What's your tradition?!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Big Ole Feets

I posted a couple of pictures on twitter for people to see from the Christmas card photo shoot I had with Miss Elle. Our pictures turned out SO CUTE! I just love them.
I struggled with how to stay anonymous but still wanting to share the pics with my bloggy readers.... I want you guys to be able to see them! Buuuuut I also want to remain anonymous.

So, with that in mind, this is the best I can do for you. (but I do LOVE this picture!!!!)

Those are some big ole feet, huh? :)

Greetings from the road

Howdy everyone...
Greetings from the middle o nowhere, Oklahoma.
My mom, Elle Woods, and I are on the way back to Dallas from Chicago... I felt a zit break out on my face the moment we crossed the Oklahoma border. Sounds about right.

Sorry I have not updated since finals ended... I pretty much slept the whole time once it was over.
Biz Orgs was hard, but not too terribly awful. Thank God I had a couple of good outlines from friends who took the class before... Otherwise I would have been totally screwed.

I spent the next couple days sleeping and now am headed back to Dallas for a couple weeks off. I'm pumped to spend some time in warmer weather with nothing to do.

I can't believe Christmas is so close! I got prints made of the pictures of Elle and I for all of my family members, so I've got to go find frames for them tomorrow. Other than that, I'm ready.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Weigh-In Wednesday

Okay I know I say this every week, but seriously WHERE did the last week go?!
Good news to report this week (hooray!)

So it seems like the weeks that I am really strict with counting calories and working out every day, I don't have nearly as much change as when I let myself have 1 or 2 "cheat" days. I guess this sorta makes sense... shocking my metabolism into working or something like that?
Luckily, this week was not an exception to that rule (see Wednesday 12/9 and Thursday 12/10... they were SCARY! haha).

I'm honestly kind of shocked by this week... I had to step on the scale three different times to make sure it was true.

This week: - 3 pounds
Total since January 3, 2009: -20 pounds!

Yep... you read that right. TWENTY POUNDS! Which means I am just 10 pounds away from my original 30 pound goal. WAHOOO!
It only took me 11.5 months to get here. Ha.

And for those of you who care about what I'm doing at the gym - here ya go:
Wednesday, 12/9: No workout. Had my evidence final (ick), then went out and had entirely too much to eat and drink when it was over. (Seriously. WAY too much. I am not in college anymore. eeeek!)
Thursday, 12/10: No workout. Spent the entire day violently hungover. Had 3 meals: An entire frozen pizza at noon, McDonald's at 3 PM, and ordered pizza at 8PM. Clearly, I am a picture of health.
Friday, 12/11: Back on track. 25 minutes on the stairmaster, "ran" for 15 minutes on the treadmill (1% incline, 5.5mph), 20 minutes on the elliptical. 50 pushups, 100 crunches.
Saturday, 12/12: 30 minutes on the stairmaster, ran for 10 minutes (6mph, 1.5% incline), 20 minutes on the elliptical, 5 minutes on the bike. 50 pushups (I REALLY struggled with the pushups today for some reason) and 100ish crunches (I lost count).
Sunday, 12/13: 25 minutes on the stairmaster, ran for 10 minutes (6mph, 1% incline), 20 minutes on the elliptical.
Monday, 12/14: 45 minute spin class (last one until the New Year, sad!), 25 minutes on the elliptical, 25 pushups
Tuesday, 12/15: 25 minutes on the stair master, 25 minutes on the treadmill, 10 minutes on the elliptical, 50 pushups, 100 crunches

As for the eating - with a few exceptions I've been eating anywhere from 1200-2000 calories a day, just depending on how starving I am.

And now, I am off to take my LAST FINAL of 2009! Hooray! Unfortunately it is also likely to be the hardest final of 2009. Business Organizations. Barf.

It's boring.
It's hard.
I don't really have a good grasp of the material.

This should be fun....

Take Home DUNZO

I just finished a take home final that I had 29 days to work on in 32 hours.

I rule.

Poor, poor endangered species

It's 2:15 AM.
I just chugged a redbull.
I'm still plugging away at this take home final.
Progress is slow, but steady.

I have just reached question #4, which is an essay about my client who was indicted for engaging in an unnatural sex act with a federally protected endangered species.

SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?!

How does anyone expect me to take this seriously?!?!!?!?

STEER CLEAR!

So I'm g-chatting my friend while in the library today about the things that are annoying me at the moment....
My take-home final.
Other students in the library.
The fact that there is nothing good to eat by school.
Law school in general.
Etc.

N: you're going to hurt someone today.
I'm calling it now.

The thing is... he's probably right. Consider yourself warned. hahahaha

Recipe Time - Peanut Butter Cups!

Since so many of you loved the peanut butter dip I shared a couple weeks ago, I thought I'd share one of my favorite low-calorie dessert recipes... but seriously, this is so easy that I don't think it should really even be called a recipe.

It's no secret that I LOVE peanut butter. I eat it by the spoonful. Problem is - SOOO many calories! (and don't give me that garbage about "good fat". Whatever. I am counting calories, so I don't care about good fat). So basically I love to find a way to eat as much peanut butter as possible, so I "dillute" it... Greek yogurt and coolwhip are both amazing for mixing with peanut butter. This recipe uses CoolWhip (or whatever generic version of whipped topping you prefer).

Frozen Peanut Butter Cups

Use 1 container of lite or fat-free whipped topping - let it thaw out so it's mixable.

Add PEANUT BUTTER! I used 2/3 of a cup. You can use more or less depending on what you want - If you use less peanut butter there are less calories, but I think it freezes better with more peanut butter.

Combine them into a bowl and mix together with a spatula.
THAT'S IT! haha well... almost.

Then you put them into a muffin tin and put them in the freezer. I found this one at Target that is PERFECT. This is AWESOME for anyone doing weight watchers or watching their calories. I also use it for brownies. It has 2 dozen little spaces instead of the usual dozen, so you can make smaller portions.

Fill the peanut butter mixture in the muffin pan (Since mine is silicone I don't use any sort of cupcake/muffin liner because I can just pop it out of the pan. Use a liner if you're using a metal pan!)
Then top them off with a little drizzle of chocolate syrup! (note: The chocolate doesn't freeze, so don't put too much (like I did) or it'll get messy!)
Close-up:
And then pop them in the freezer!
After 6-8 hours they firm up pretty well. I just keep them in the freezer in the muffin pan and pop them out when I want one.

They end up being about 75 calories a piece and totally delicious!

Hi, this is my dog. Hire me!

One of my friends is leaving his clerking position to take another job next semester and recommended me to be his possible replacement.
I'm only taking 12 hours next semester and am broke, so I need a job to occupy my time and stop the financial bleeding that I'm currently experiencing.

He told them I would be e-mailing my resume, which I'm doing at the moment. We are discussing via g-chat what pertinent information I should include about myself.

N: i don't know, just say something along the lines of who you are,
that i told you to pass your resume along to them
N: Probably mention Elle.
me: Obviously I was leading with Elle's picture.
should I mention that I'm blonde?
I feel like that's important.
N: hahah. i do too

Someday I'll take something seriously. Someday.

Weigh-In Wednesday

Here we are again!

Lost this week: 0 (finals, I'll take it)
Total Lost: - 17

I have pretty much abandoned Weight Watchers. Instead I'm using the "Lose it!" app on my iphone and just counting calories. I think it's a little simpler. And it's free! Since free is about all that's in my budget these days (not even joking), that's lovely.

I worked out 6 of the last 7 days. Mostly because I'm supposed to be "studying" for finals, and I think between studying and working out, working out is the lesser of two evils.
Also, I didn't go out this weekend (again, supposed to be studying). No drinking = no hangover = no workout skipping. Who knew?!

Since I always get questions about what I did at the gym, here are my workouts from the last week:
Wednesday, 12/2: Nothing. Last day of classes followed by an enormous birthday dinner for my BFF, where I consumed a delicious piece of steak the size of a small child and a bottle and a half of wine. Happy Birthday to you, indeed.
Thursday, 12/3: 20 minutes on the stairmaster, 20 minutes run/walk on the treadmill, 20 minutes on the elliptical, 50 pushups
Friday, 12/4: 20 minutes on the stairmaster, 30 minutes on the elliptical, 10 minutes on the bike, 50 pushups, 50 crunches
Saturday 12/5: 25 minutes on the stairmaster, 10 minutes walking on the treadmill at 15% incline and 4.2 mph, 25 minutes on the elliptical50 pushups, 100 crunches
Sunday 12/6: Ran 3.1 miles in 36 minutes (stopped to walk twice for a minute each time), 20 minutes on stairmaster, 50 pushups, 100 crunches
Monday 12/7: 45 minute spin class, 30 minutes on the elliptical, 20 push-ups
Tuesday 12/8: The best workout of my entire life. (Not even exaggerating). 50 pushups, 25 crunches, 10 minutes on the stairmaster.... and I ran 3.1 miles in 34 minutes and 20 seconds.
.....

HELLO!!!! DID YOU READ THAT?! I RAN A 5K IN LESS THAN 35 MINUTES WITHOUT STOPPING TO WALK ONCE!!! I have never ran that long in my entire life. Even when I was playing varsity basketball in high school and weighed 25 pounds less than I do now. This is epic, people. EPIC.

I feel like I've been trying to lose this weight FOREVER. I started on January 3, 2009. It wasn't really a New Years Resolution as much as I went home for Christmas, stepped on the scale, and realized that HOLY SHIT I'd put on 15 pounds in the last year (in addition to the 25 pounds I'd gained in the few years before that).
I lost a little weight, then gained some back, then slooooooowly started losing it again.
Over the last month or so I feel as if my body said to me "hey, you're not drinking 10+ vodka tonics a night 5+ nights per week anymore. Thanks!" and is starting to cooperate. Hallelujah.

So there you have it.

You'll all be okay.

1L's (and even 2L's and 3L's) -
Perhaps I've been a bit harsh.
I understand you're stressed. You're confused. And exhausted. And over-caffeinated.
And you probably hate your life right now. Or maybe you love this shit, I don't know.

Don't worry, you'll get through it. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
We all survived 1L year.

And as evidenced by today's daily dose of my law school friends via g-chat, we all get a little overwhelmed and contemplate jumping onto the El tracks to put ourselves out of the misery of law school at some point.

me: This sucks.
T:
I hate my life.
Why did I choose this path?

Evidence is pushing everyone to the brink.

these posts are just writing themselves...

I didn't realize how easy blogging would be during finals... my friends are just giving me material.

J: is it bad that every time i see a 1L in the library with his inevitable contracts or property supplement i give him a look that says "oh man, you are so fucking screwed"?

The answer: No, it's not bad. It's true. You're all so fucking screwed.

And to be fair, it's not just 1L's. Anybody could give me that exact same look right now. The difference is that I'm home, far far away from the law library. The law library gives me the heebie jeebies during finals.

Good luck studying!

A non-law school related post for you...

Because contrary to what I blog about here, law school finals are NOT consuming my life.
(They're just consuming the lives of all my friends, so I feel compelled to write about the funny things they say).
Those of you who follow me on twitter already heard the first part of this story.

My friend Jason is am ER doctor. He is gay. ER doctors have great stories. Gay ER doctors have even better stories. (Yes, he REALLY DID have a patient with his dick stuck in his zipper. That poor, poor guy who not only got his dick stuck in his zipper, but had to go to the emergency room and get the gay doctor on call. HILARIOUS.)
Jason has a gay friend who is an ice skater on tour throughout Europe. (first of all - is there anything MORE GAY than a gay ice skater on tour in Europe?! If there is, I certainly can't think of it).
Jason has taken a couple days off from work and flew to Amsterdam to visit his friend, the ice skater. He was on g-chat this afternoon and of course I chatted him immediately (what?! Did you think I was studying?! No.).

Jason: i did see quite a few tits today
me: hahahah
how did that make you feel?
Jason: lol
weird.
they would finger me over to their window
and i just giggled

So if you were wondering what it's like to be a gay man in the Red Light District... there you have it.

Law students are hilarious

When you're in law school, you think a lot of things that are funny that really aren't.

1L year we had to write a memo about adverse possession (because apparently my super awesome law school with it's super awesome legal writing program couldn't come up with a more interesting topic). Everyone would make jokes about adversely possessing just about anything. (think "I adversely possessed your girlfriend last night"). Not funny, but sort of funny. 2L year we had to do oral arguments. I'm sure you can imagine the oral jokes that went along with that.

Last night, I received this g-chat from a friend who is my evidence class (at 11:30 on a Saturday night, might I add. Another super cool part about law school - staying in on Saturday nights):

Mike: have you learned which statements are against your penal interest?
me: there is nothing against my penal interest.

Yes, studying for evidence is absolutely hysterical.
God help me.

1L's need to be smacked.

So at my super awesome law school, as part of the legal writing classes first year, you have to take a test over the bluebook at the end of 1L year.
Yes, you read that right.
It's absolutely f'ing ridiculous.
It's actually really hard too. You're allowed to have your bluebook with you, but the test is really long so you're scrambling through the pages you've tabbed to find the rules, the test is actually worth a lot of points (which is weird because you'd thinking in a LEGAL WRITING CLASS you'd be graded on your LEGAL WRITING, not your ability to furiously flip through the f'ing bluebook), and it's at the end of the semester when you have more important shit to do (hello studying for classes that actually matter?!).

SO anyway, last night I received this gchat from my friend who is a 2L and just about lost my shit.

Patrick: there's a 1L who is planning to outline the whole bluebook over winter break
me: omg
WHAT
i'm going to kill him.
who is he?
and what's his home address?

SERIOUSLY?
I know the test is stupid, and it's a pain in the ass, but do you REALLY have nothing better to do over break?!
and do you not have enough to do right now that you've actually had time to think ahead to next semester and what you're going to do over your BREAK from school?!?!?!
Someone PLEASE take this kid out for drinks.

Concentrating VERY HARD

The following conversation just took place in the library via g-chat:

B: hey! i wanted to say hi but you are all the way over in the corner
me: haha, hiiii!
B: and you looked like you were focusing pretty hard
me: yeah I'm focusing super hard on Gchat and Bubble Spinner.

Please don't bother me. I'm clearly very busy.

Weigh-In Wednesday

Apparently the Thanksgiving binging sent my metabolism into overdrive and it hasn't stopped... I managed to lose 2 pounds this week! WAHOOO!
I was hoping that I would have a "breakthrough" of sorts and the weight would start coming off a little easier... looks like it's finally happened! Hooray!

Total lost since January 09: -17 pounds (yesss!)
To go until I prance around in Louboutins: 13 pounds

(For those of you who are new readers or have forgotten.... my mom offered to buy me a pair of Christian Louboutin's if (WHEN) I lose 30 pounds)
I CAN DO IT!

I have basically come to terms with the fact that I have an eating disorder. I CANNOT STOP EATING. So I have been burning mad calories at the gym (800-900 a day) to counteract it. Guess it's working!

How'd everyone else do this week?

It's like you're ASKING me to write about you...

I just sat through my final evidence class (which is also my final 9AM class EVER. IN MY LIFE! WHOOO!).

We did some reviewing for the final (which is in a week. Whooops), and then the professor gave us some life lessons. I have so many things to comment on that hour and 15 minutes that I will probably only remember 1/2 of it.

Here goes:
- Law students.are.idiots. There is no other way to put that.
- People seriously e-mailed the professor to ask him to clear up some holes in their notes. Thankfully, he did not. Maybe if you weren't so f'ing socially inept you would have friends in the class and you could get their notes. Or maybe if you weren't a neurotic law school freak you would realize that you can teach the shit to yourself without having every word that came out of the professors mouth.
- A girl seriously raised her hand to ask if we would need bluebooks (the notebooks with blank pages you hand write essays in) or computers. For the all multiple-choice all scantron exam. Are you going to write out "A" "B" "C" and "D" on a blank page? I hope she could feel my eyes rolling as soon as she opened her mouth.
- At the end of class the professor offered us a little "life advice." It was great. He told me nothing I didn't already know (because I have common sense), but apparently this was shocking and life-altering for a lot of people in class, based on the looks on their faces and the chatter after class. He basically said that for the majority of the class (who are finishing their third semester of law school), the time has come to GET A JOB, to network, and to meet people. That blindly sending out your resume is not going to get you anywhere, and HELLO! YOU DON'T GO TO HARVARD! People are not going to be banging down your door to employ you. You're going to have to do some work. So stop wasting time with your pointless studying organizations. They are not going to get you a job.
I was personally glad to hear him say all of these things. These are things that I know, but like I said, apparently they came as a real shock to some of my classmates. Apparently they didn't realize that the recession has hit the legal market too and there aren't jobs out there. And the fact that they go to a mediocre school in a city with an oversaturated legal market also seemed to surprise them. Like they really thought that their degree was going to be that impressive.

How people can go through life being so f'ing clueless never fails to amaze me.

And on that note, I'm going to Starbucks.
Hope you all have a LOVELY day. 'Tis the season!
XOXO

The most relaxing month of the year is upon us...

So. December 1st. Where the hell did that come from?

This is usually the most stressful time of the year for law students.
First year's are panicking because they've never had a law school exam before.
Second year's are panicking because they're assholes.
Some 3L's are panicking because they're clearly morons who haven't learned yet that law school is a joke, and the rest are just quietly getting their shit done so they can move on with their lives.

And then there's me...

This morning I got up (and by morning I mean it was BARELY morning - 11:30), got dressed to go work out, had some breakfast, sat on the couch, answered some e-mails, tweeted, e-mailed some more... then I paid some bills, took Elle Woods on a field trip to the bank, paid some more bills...
Then I went to the gym.
at 4:30 PM.
5 hours after I got dressed to go to the gym.
Oops.

Then I came home.. cooked some dinner, showered, watched The Biggest Loser, took Elle on a mini-walk... and now here I am.
11PM.
Accomplished nothing.

Am I panicking?
Nope.
Stressed?
Nah... not really.

Am I going to get some work done tomorrow?
ehhh... maybe.

Happy Finals Seasons,
XOXO,
The World's Worst Law Student.

Workout Buddy

Hi everyone!
Just a little words of workout wisdom from yours truly... I was talking to Mrs. It Is Everlasting this morning about how I've been getting my butt to the gym lately. She is proud of me, and I am surprised! :) I think the one thing that has been making a big difference for me is getting a workout buddy!
My friend Mike and I have had a standing workout date to go to spinning class every Monday at 6:45. I have class 9-5:30 on Mondays, so usually by the time I get home I am exhausted. Even if I have EVERY intention ALL day long of getting to the gym when I get home, by the time I get on the bus and head home, a huge wave of sleepiness rushes over me and I am heading straight to the couch instead of the gym. Knowing that my gym buddy is there and waiting on me means I can't head to the couch... I have to get my butt to class!

I usually get home at about 6:15 on Mondays, which gives me juuuust enough time to take Elle outside, throw some food in her bowl, change, and rush to the gym.
Last night I got there and as we were walking in to spin class my gym buddy Mike looked at me and said:

"I am exhausted and have diarrhea. I almost texted you to tell you
I was skipping today, but I knew you'd be pissed."

Hahah!
And the same would have happened if I had told him I wasn't coming... he'd be pissed at me!
SO - my advice to you trying to lose weight, train for a marathon, get in shape, or whatever... GET A GYM BUDDY! Convince a friend who lives in your area to join your gym (a must this time of the year in Chicago), or for those of you in warmer climates, find someone to go for runs or walks with. Plan ahead of time, make a standing date, and make sure you stick to it!

So there ya have it... my unsolicited advice.
Anyone have any other tips or tricks for making themselves get to the gym?
oh and p.s. - Mike did not shit himself during spinning last night. Phew.
