There is nothing fabulous about today....

Well, as the title of this post reads, there is nothing fabulous going on in my life today.
I got a phone call from my mom this morning.

I have written about my great dane, Elle Woods, before. I have grown up with great danes, and love them. My parents also have a dane, Bella, who is 2.5 years and is Elle Woods cousin (they have the same grandfather).
A couple of months ago, my mom noticed that Bella was bleeding in her mouth. They took her into the vet, who sent her to a veterinary dentist, because he thought she had a cracked tooth. It turned out that she didn't have a cracked tooth, but while they were cleaning her teeth they noticed that her blood wasn't clotting.

After running several tests, they decided that they thought Bella had possibly gotten into rat poison. We didn't have rat poison out, but it was possible maybe she got into a dead rat or something?
So they started giving her daily Vitamin K shots, but she still wasn't better.
My parents took her to another vet, a specialist, who determined that she had something wrong with her blood. Basically her platelet count was like 0% of what it should be, she had no energy, and her blood wasn't clotting.
They finally diagnosed her with Thrombocytopenia with Immune Deficiency Disorder. Here's the page from the Mayo Clinic about Thrombocytopenia.

Bella had to have a round of chemo and LOTS of steroids. They made her lose almost 15 pounds, she got really weak, and had no energy. But last week they went and drew blood and we thought that she was getting better. Her platelet counts were almost back to normal, which is good.
Yesterday my dad said she never got up out of bed, and in the middle of the night she started throwing up blood. They took her to the emergency vet, and the vet said that she was bleeding internally and needed a blood transfusion and probably surgery.

My parents decided that it was just too much for her, so they had to put her down.
She was only 2.5 years old and the sweetest dog ever. We are so sad.

I am taking Elle Woods home on June 10th to stay at my parents house while I study in Prague for the summer. She is going to be SO lost without Bella there - they are best best friends. Seriously when they're together they're like butt buddies. One day over Christmas I had to take Bella to the vet and left Elle at home without her - Elle sat by the door and waited for her ALL day. :(

Here are a couple pics of our sweet Belly girl... we'll miss her so much. :(

One of my favorite Bella pictures... we like to call this one "Are you my mother?" Taken at one of my parent's friends ranch.

Another ranch pic:
Baby Bella and my little brother:
Bella lounging on the couch:
Bella LOVED my little neighbor, and she was so sweet and gentle with him
Bella laying on the couch with my mom
Sweet girl laying on the floor
Her favorite spot in the house since she was a pup - sunbathing!

And finally - Bella and Elle, best friends.

Rest in Peace sweet Belly girl... I hope you're chasing squirrels and bunnies and doggy heaven.

I <3 the beach

So we had a couple BEAUTIFUL days here in Chicago, which of course I spent at the dog beach with Elle Woods.
On Wednesday I got a sunburn after being out there for only an hour and half - it's been a long Chicago winter!
Last night I was in the tub, and realized I had the funniest tan line ever:

Ha!
Can you tell I wore flip flops to the beach? I have some serious tank top tan lines on my shoulders too.
(p.s. please ignore the fact that my feet are total porkers and that I appear to have cankles in this picture)

More Summer fun!!!

I finally bought a bike today! I've been wanting to get one for a while (I haven't had a bike since middle school!), and I went shopping around at a couple places throughout this week and tried several. I wanted something cruiser-looking, but with several gears so I can shift.

It looks red in these pictures, but ti's a pretty magenta color. I can't wait to go for rides along the lakeshore on beautiful days (like today!), and it's great exercise. I have friends that say they discovered so many new areas of the city where they'd never been before when they got a bike... I hope the same hold true for me!

(oh, and don't worry, I got all the proper locks so it doesn't get stolen, and of course a helmet so I can ride safely!)

Here are some pics of my new beauty:

boredom...

I've had two weeks of summer, and I'm bored.
I am studying abroad in Prague this summer (I mentioned this, right?), but don't leave for like another 7 weeks. What the hell am I supposed to do with my time until then?!
I've been taking Elle to the dog beach ad working out, but that's nothing new. I've also been watching lotssss of movies on netflix.

Oh and I went to Target on Tuesday and bought a 2000 piece puzzle... It is seriously intense. I'll have to take a picture of the progress I've made in two days... Seriously I've probably spent 8 hours on it and have almost NOTHING done. It's for sure going to keep me occupied, especially on rainy days.

The pool in my building opens up for the season on Saturday (WAHOOOOO!!!!), so that will certainly occupy my weekends (all my friends from the building and I camp out by the pool all day saturdays and sundays during the summer and drink wayyyy too much and grill out).

And tomorrow I'm going to buy a bike! I test rode a couple of them and have decided on the one I want. I'll let you guys guess as to the color (haha!). It's pretty and comfy so that will be really fun. I will take a picture of it tomorrow once I make the big purchase... I'm really excited! I'm going to get to explore so many more places around the city now... And get lots of exercise biking down the lakefront bike path!!

So that's how I'm filling my time so far. Anyone have any other suggestions for ways to occupy my summer?!?

Documentaries...

In addition to The Wrestler, I watched 7 documentaries this weekend. Yes, 7.
Yes, I realize I need to get a life.

I love documentaries. I was a broadcast journalism major in college, so I think I have an extra appreciation for good editing and good interviews, and I also took a class in college on documentary films from a teacher who was a documentary filmmaker.

So anyway, the seventh one I watched was far and away the best one and I am highly recommending it.

It's called "Dear Zachary: a letter to a son about his father."
Here is the description from netflix:
Filmmaker Kurt Kuenne's poignant tribute to his murdered childhood friend, Andrew Bagby, tells the story of a child custody battle between the baby's grieving grandparents and Shirley Turner, Bagby's pregnant ex-girlfriend and suspected killer. Initially, Kuenne made this documentary as a memorial for Andrew's loved ones, but it morphs into an emotional legal odyssey when Turner goes free on bail and is allowed to raise her son.

I don't want to say anything more about it because I don't want to give it away, but there is a reason it's won several awards. It's awesome both because it's a really well-done documentary and because the story is so touching. WARNING: make sure to have tissues handy when watching! It's super sad!

Beautiful Chicago Summer...

Well the 8 month long winter (literally... I am not joking) has finally head out, and we are nearing summer in Chicago.
For my non-Chicago readers - summer in Chicago is seriously amazing and the only reason people stick around

While this weekend was a little chilly, it was still beautiful to sit on my couch and look out at the beautiful harbor and Lake Michigan. Here's the view from my living room:

These pics are a little old, but this is the same thing I saw today... beeeeautiful!!!

So many movies...

Watching movies, working out, sleeping, and drinking are pretty much the only things I've done thus far this summer, and it's not looking like it's gonna change anytime soon.

Since stories of me working out and sleeping are no good, and drinking stories aren't any good unless I'm doing something stupid, I'm probably going to be writing movie reviews all summer long.

Last night some friends of mine invited me to their place to watch The Wrestler. I had heard really good things about it, and I'm trying to watch more movies (especially movies that were nominated for awards!), so of course I took them up on the offer.

Obviously I knew it was going to be about wrestling... (hellooooo, I'm not an idiot!), but I thought it was going to be about THIS kind of wrestling:

Not this kind:

Oooooh boy was I wrong.

I know everyone (well at least it seemed like everyone), said that the movie was so good... honestly, I thought it sucked. I was pretty bored the whole time, and as a general rule I find the whole WWF type wrestling stuff to be stupid and white trash.

(Spoiler alert!) The one good thing that I thought the movie had going for it ended up sucking too... There was a sub-plot about Mickey Rourke's character trying to re-unite with his daughter, which he ends up ruining because he forgets to meet her for dinner because he's doing blow and having sex with sluts in random bar bathrooms. So yeah, one chance to turn his life around and the idiot ruins it.

Not to mention, there was a whole lotta nudity. Granted, Marissa Tomei has a banging body, but still.... not exactly what I wanted to see.

I guess if I was looking for a positive, the acting was good? I think Mickey Rourke is gross though.

So yeah - definitely pass it up if you get a chance to see The Wrestler. Unless anyone disagrees with me?

Summer Clean-up!

My summer break has officially started, so I no longer have the finals excuse for my disgustingly messy room. Yesterday I spent the whooooole afternoon cleaning my bedroom and bathroom (the rest of the condo wasn't really that dirty/messy). I took some before/after shots to share, but now that I'm looking at them I can't even believe that I'm going to share that I let myself live in such squalor.

To start: my dirty, unmade bed. You can't see it, but these sheets are covered in sand from my lovely dog (we spend a lot of time at the dog beach!). Seriously - sandy sheets?! Gross. It would be less gross if it was beautiful tropical sand, but it's Lake Michigan dog beach sand... SICK!

Next up - the foot of the bed/floor. Note the various bones/dog toys scattered about. I have to do a several times a week clean-up to remove Elle's toys from my room to put them back into her toybox in the living room. She always brings them back. Also - as you can see on the floor there, the bright blue stain from where devil dog chewed up a ballpoint pen and the ink spilled all over the carpet. I need to call a carpet repair person and get that fixed.
Also in the corner - Elle's bed and my portable air conditioner. My building has forced air, which means it's sort of central through the building, but the building has to switch it over from heat to a/c, which usually doesn't happen until the end of May. However we've had some high 70-degree days, and I absolutely cannot sleep or study or do ANYTHING if I'm hot and uncomfortable, so I bought a portable air conditioner. Seriously the best 400 bucks I've ever spent. It makes me room heavenly frosty.

Next up - my dirty nightstand, including the broken lamp shade. The one I had fell off the nightstand and shattered one night when I was up at like 4AM writing a trial brief for my legal writing class. That was fun. So I finally just bought a new lampshade, which I need to put on the lamp. Also - you can't see it, but the amount of dust that is on that nightstand (as well as my dresser) is pretty unbelievable. I think it's just from living in a high-rise, but the amount of dust that collects is amazing. Seriously I have to dust EVERY DAY. (well - I should. But I don't).
And here is my closet - stuffed to the brim with clothing.
And the floor of my closet, which you can't even see, because it is covered in more clothes, shoes, workout gear, etc.
And my bathroom - AH! Sick. The leftovers of my closet clearly vomitted all over my bathroom floor.
I mean really? What is going on in here? I am totally not usually the person who has clothes scattered about everywhere. Again, I'm blaming this behavior on finals.
And my bathroom counters, covered in all sorts of crap. And really? Who can't even close the drawers or cabinets?! A slob, that's who.
I tried to get a close-up picture of the sand puddle around my dirty dog but I was not very successful. So here's just a picture of her sweet face on the bed.
Here's a mid-cleaning pic once the sheets were stripped off - it took her about 3 seconds to resume her place on the bed. Is someone spoiled or what?!
And now - my clean closet!!! I got rid of a bunch of clothes, and moved my sweaters and blazers into storage and got out all my pretty fun dresses because even if the weather isn't really acting like it, IT IS SUMMER! It makes me so much happier to see all the bright colors! And the relatively cleaned up floor!
And my bathroom! Sparkley clean! I scrubbed the whole thing with bleach (Sidenote: I LOVE bleach. I just don't think that my bathroom feels clean if I don't use a product with bleach in it to clean it.). I also vacuumed the rugs and scrubbed the baseboards. I love having a clean bathroom.
And my clean bathroom countertops, yay! And the hair dryer and etc all put away and drawers shut. I feel so much better about my life when my bathroom is clean, ha.
Oh and I had to include this picture. Of course right after I finish putting clean sheets on and making my bed, Elle Woods plops her butt in the middle of my pillows. God forbid she lay at the END of the bed, she has to nestle her way into the pillows. I have created a monster!

So that's what I did yesterday! Obviously Elle Woods was SUCH a big helper (helloooo sarcasm), but it feels so good to have a clean bathroom and sleep in clean sheets! I also vacuumed and shampooed my carpets, which they so desperately needed.

Has anyone else done a major summer cleanup?

Kuma Coma

I am currently in a total food coma.
Some friends from school and I went to Kuma's Corner today, a burger restaurant in Chicago that's apparently been featured on Food Network and is consistently regarded as one of the best burger joints in Chicago.

Here is the description from the menu for the May Burger of the month:
I am a HUGE wimp when it comes to spicy foods, so there was no way I was going to go here, but my friend that I went with ordered it. It was the biggest burger I've ever seen:

I got the "Metallica" (all the burgers there are named after heavy metal songs/bands) - it was a burger with buffalo sauce, bacon, and bleu cheese dressing. It was deeelish. Here's a pic of it:
It was really good.
They also only stock local and "different" beers (meaning no Bud or Miller products!). I'm not a huge beer drinker and pretty much only drink Miller Lite when I do drink beer, so that forced me to branch out. Our waitress and my friends were really good about helping me pick out beers that I liked. They also had whiskey on tap! I've never seen that anywhere before. So of course we had to finish with a whiskey shot to toast being done with finals.

All in all - I would totally recommend going there if you're in Chicago, just plan to make a day of it. We got there with 5 people at 2:00 and didn't leave until after 4:30. It took forever! But luckily we're on summer break now so we had plenty of time to just sit out on the patio and enjoy it.

I need to go back to bed now... that was my only meal of the day and I am still SO full! I don't even want to know how many Weight Watchers points I consumed in that one sitting....

Bridal Shower Invitations

Thanks for everyone's recommendations for bridal shower invitations! I had such a hard time choosing, they were all so cute! I finally decided on this one:

They charge FIFTY dollars more to have the information printed on the invitations, which is totally ridiculous, so I just ordered them blank and I'm going to print them up myself.

We <3 to shop!

Elle Woods and I went to the beach this morning to play... it was chilly here in Chicago (50 degrees, but usually feels about 10 degrees less than that on the lake).
But there were 3 other Great Danes at the beach, so she had a good time romping with some other dogs her size!

She's been wearing the same collar since before Valentine's Day... it was hot pink with hearts on it (very cute!), but it had started getting dirty and I was getting bored, so after the beach we went shopping for new "jewelry." I couldn't decide which one I liked best, so she just got both.

Here is one of her new collars:
It's hot pink with pink polka dots on it... adorable!

Here's the other one:

And at the store we went to they had just gotten back from the butcher. They had this hunk of cow leg:

Looks pretty gross to me, but apparently dogs loooove them.

I'm keeping it in the freezer for now, then Elle can have it tomorrow during Desperate Housewives so she'll be quiet and not interrupt me.

We love to shop!

SUMMER!!!!

I am officially finished with finals and my second year of law school!!!

To celebrate the beginning of summer, Elle Woods and I went to the dog beach with my friend and her bulldog, Roco. Here are a few pictures of how we started our summer off:

That's Roco riding shotgun on the way to the beach (Elle takes up the whole backseat)

Roco stole a toy from some other dogs... check out the look of success on his face!!!

And now my favorite picture... Elle and Roco swimming!!! I have never seen a bulldog swim like this before... it was hilarious!!!

And last but not least - my sweet girl Ms. Elle Woods!!!

We hope to have many more beautiful days at the beach like this coming up!
Happy Summer!!!!

Why are people SO weird?!?

So I'm sitting here waiting to take my exam, which starts in 20 minutes. A girl that I hate (yes, I realize there are a lot of them) just came in and took out a travel pack of clorox wipes and wiped down the entire table where she's going to take her exam.

REALLY?!?! is that necessary?!

I mean I'm all for hand sanitizer and being clean, but are you worried that your scantron is going to catch swine flu?

Ugh. Why are people SO weird?!?

On that note... Time for my LAST final!!! Whoooo!!!!

Paging: My Motivation...

Motivation? Helloooo?! Where are you?!

So I have my LAST final of the semester tomorrow morning at 10AM... Of course I have done next to nothing to study for it, partly because I don't want to, and partly because I have absolutely no idea how to study for it.
Awesome.

How is it that I've been in law school for two years now and really have no clue how to study for a law school exam? Is that even possible?

This could potentially be a disaster.

FOUR down, 1 to go!

PEACE OUT CONSTITUTIONAL LAW!!!

I am so glad to have that exam over. I owe my friend Megan my life... she gave me her constitutional law stuff from her class last year, and it totally saved me. I wouldn't have had a clue what to write without it.

Now I'm moving on to the next one. In 40 hours I will be DONE with my second year of law school, YAY!!

Legally Blonde Excitement!!!!

As if I don't have enough to look forward to, just with finals ending...

My big birthday present from my parents was two tickets to go see Legally Blonde the Musical when it is here in Chicago at the end of this month.

I am taking one of my good gay guy friends with me, which will be really fun. I absolutely cannot wait. Legally Blonde is obviously one of my favorite movies, and the only MTV show I've watched in the last 10 years was the show where they had the girls trying out for the cast of the musical... obsessseddddddd!

So ANYWAY, there is a bar in Boystown (the little area where all the gay bars are in Chicago) that has "Musical Mondays"... they play musicals up on the big screens around the bar and everyone gets drunk off of fruity cocktails and sings to musicals. I have never been but it sounds so fun, so I really want to go. Since I have nothing to do this summer I have a feeling I will be attending several Musical Mondays....

I just saw this on their website:

The cast of Legally Blonde! AHH! I am so excited! What do I wear?! EEeeep!!! Legally Blonde and vodka and gays, oh my!!!!

How is Lorena Bobbitt all in the news again?!

First off - wow. I'm clearly procrastinating because I have been a blogging maniac today.

Second - I was going through one of my favorite websites, Jezebel, and come across this entry about Lorena Bobbitt:
I wrote a couple weeks ago about Lorena's appearance on Oprah's "Newsmakers of the 90's" show.

The Title of the Jezebel Article?
"Lorena and John Bobbitt reunite to discuss their severed relationship."

Best.Headline.Ever.

Other than that, the whole thing is really sad. Basically, he was an abusive bastard and had it coming.

The article is about an appearance they did for Inside Edition...
I just think it's so strange that she's been back in the news so much lately. Why?

Bridal Shower Invitations

I need some help from my fabulous girly readers -

My mom and I are throwing a lingerie shower for my best friend from home who is getting married in September. The shower is going to be in June, so I need to get invitations ordered!

Does anyone have any suggestions for somewhere to order invitations from?

There are less than 20 invitations to send out (lots of mothers/daughters who still live together!), so price is not a huge obstacle.

I want it to be fun but tasteful... a little bit of a challenge for a lingerie shower, but I feel confident that I can pull it off.

Let me know what you guys have used in the past or any other lingerie-themed bridal shower advice you have for me!

Thanks so much!

Bathtub Blogger...

Greetings Loyal Readers!!

So I love baths... I'm not sure if I've written about this before, but I've been know to come home from the bars at 3 am and hop in the bathtub. I honestly have no explanation for why I do that... Most of the time it's not really a conscious decision ("black out bath", as my friends have named it). I think it's a combo of being FREEZING when I get home during the Chicago winter, having dirty bar feet and not wanting to get in bed with them, and not wanting to reek of booze anymore.
Of course I usually still reek of booze the next morning anyway, but still. I'm an admitted hot mess, I can't offer a good explanation.

I also enjoy taking baths as study breaks... If I lay down for a nap there's no guarantee I'm gonna wake back up until the next morning, so a bath is a good way to de-compress before a couple more hours of studying.

Today I spent about 9 hours at the library, then came home, ate a disgustingly obscene amount of deep dish pizza (my stress-eating is enough for it's own post), and then hopped in the bath, which is where I am writing from now. After I soak for a little bit, I'm gonna read through my ConLaw outline a couple times, mayyyyybe start advanced crim pro, then get a little bit of sleep before spending the day doing last minute studying for my exam tomorrow night.

I feel okay about ConLaw (mostly because it's open notes and I have a good outline), but I'm starting to freak out about my Advanced Crim Pro exam on Thursday. It's closed book and I've pretty much done NOTHING to study for it. Why do I do this to myself?!? Argh.

What does everyone else do to de-compress during finals?

P.S.- go ahead, lecture me for taking drunk baths... It's nothing I haven't heard before l.

About to lose it.../ another great website

I am currently sitting in the law school library and I am about to lose it.

Despite the fact that the undergrads have their own library (not to mention their own CAMPUS!) they feel the need to invade the law school library.

It's finals week, so of course the library is packed to begin with... I'm currently sitting across from a table of giggling undergrads with anatomy books in front of them. WHAT. THE. F. They are loud and obnoxious and taking up valuable table space, and really their general presence just annoys the crap out of me.

I am so not tolerant of things like undergrads in the law library as it is, but I am totally on edge right now trying to figure out what the hell is going on for my Constitutional Law exam... these kids are going to send me over the brink.

As I was bitching about this to my friend who goes to another law school, she sent me this link: People Who Deserve it.

This website is amazing.... I sent it to a couple of my friends and they're now convinced that I made this website in my spare time. I only wish that I was that clever.

As of right now - #1 on my list of people who deserve it : undergrads in the law library. #2 - the law student we so lovingly nicknamed "stompy walker" ... I think this guy has steel-heeled shoes, because the amount of noise he is able to generate when walking through the library is quite impressive. I'm going to punch him, and I won't feel bad, because he deserved it.

Alright - Rant over. I feel a little better now. Phew.
Back to Equal Protection.

The Final Countdown...

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes everyone!

I took a break from studying on Friday, did some shopping, and went out with friends to celebrate my birthday. I had such a great time and was so happy that so many of my friends were able to make it. Of course wayyy too many shots were taken so Saturday was not exactly pretty... I didn't really get much or anything done.

Today has been more productive, but I'm starting to get a little panicky about my ConLaw exam on Tuesday... I feel like I don't know anything. :(
And I know more from throughout the semester for Advanced Criminal Procedure, but I have not outlined or studied for it AT ALL. :-/

Alright - back at it. I promised myself I wouldn't go to sleep tonight until my ConLaw outline was done. (Anyone wanna take bets on whether or not I'm going to go to sleep before it's finished?).

Past and Present...

I saw this over at the Cape House and thought it was worth doing. (Really I'm just procrastinating for finals, but still...)

15 years ago today I would have been:
  • ELEVEN years old. Wow. (EDIT: omg. i just re-read this and realized that I just turned 24 on Friday. 24-15 does not equal eleven years old. I am an idiot. Clearly I would have been NINE years old.)
  • In 4th grade... a really tough year at my grade school.
  • Still playing every sport imaginable... and being the best at pretty much all of them (I feel like this is okay to say since it's not like it lasted past 8th grade)
  • The tallest girl in my 4th grade class.
  • OBSESSED with Salt n' Pepa (no really... I still know every word to every single one of their songs. Owned the tapes. awesome.)
10 years ago today I would have been:
  • Two days after my 14th birthday... I have no idea why I remember this, but I got a Nokia cell phone for my 14th birthday (first cell phone was for Christmas and it was a p.o.s.). I got the Nokia with the changeable face plates -
Man did I think that I was COOOOOL.
  • Ending my freshman year of hell/high school (I don't think I've ever written about this on here but I had a fairly miserable high school experience. Good Lord did I HATE that place).
  • HATING the fact that I was only 14 and not 16 and therefore could not yet drive. I was really good friends with some girls that I was on drill team with that were two years older than me and they could all drive and I hated having to wait on my mom.
  • Single and not so thrilled about it.
  • I mean really all I can remember when I think back to this is how I hated high school and hated not being able to drive. My poor parents... I was a real bitch to live with.
5 years ago today I would have been:
  • A freshman in college
  • Living 830 miles away from my mother who was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer... which led to:
  • deciding whether or not to transfer from my beloved alma mater to the miserable University of Oklahoma (sorry Sooners, it just wasn't for me) (FYI - I did decide to leave and was only there for a semester before I transferred back to UofI - THANK GOD!)
  • Still dating my ex-boyfriend long distance and going to see him as frequently as possible, and being really happy with our relationship which had been going on for about 2 years at the time. We were in L-O-V-E.
  • Probably drunk
1 year ago today I would have been:
  • Outlining and studying for my second semester of law school final exams.
  • Still trying to adjust to life post-college
  • Still trying to adjust to life post-boyfriend... Man, looking back on it I was seriously still a wreck at this time last year. Not to say I'm completely healed from all that mess now, bc I'm certainly not, but I'm definitely in so much better of a place now than I was a year ago.
  • Thinking that I didn't like Chicago and made a mistake by coming to live here
  • SINGLE
This year I am:
  • Studying for finals again.... ick.
  • as single as ever
  • so much happier with my life than I was this time a year ago!
  • SO excited for the summer and the pool in my building which will be open in just three weeks, yeah!!!
  • so happy that my dog has grown up and is so much better-behaved now!

Next year I hope:
  • The economy is better so my prospects are looking up
  • The economy is better in case my job prospects aren't looking up so my parents can continue to support me (J/K... sooooort of)
  • To be planning a kick ass 25th birthday/graduation celebration
  • To have a really pretty outfit to wear for graduation that is smaller than what I'm wearing right now (15 pounds down... 25 to go!)
  • That all my friends are happy/ healthy
In five years I hope:
  • To have a career and be successful
  • To own my own condo/house
  • To not be 29 and single living with my dog.... eek.
  • That everyone is still happy and healthy!

Happy Birthday to Me!!

Happy Birthday to me!
Today is my 24th birthday. I do not feel old. I have lots of friends who are old. I still feel quite young.
I am single, fabulous, and have a lot of things to look forward to over the next year.
22 was a rough year for me... 23 was much improved. I hope that things are going to continue on this upward trend for the 24th year in the life of this fabulous one... I've got good feelings about it.

And now, I share with you, the story of my birth:

My mother was due with me, her first child, on April 26, 1985. She wanted an April baby SO badly (why? I still have never really gotten a good answer out of her). She went to the hospital like three times after April 20th thinking that she was in labor, and each time they told her to go home because it wasn't time yet.

On the morning of April 30th, she thought it was finally time, so she went to the hospital. The doctor said no, not yet. He told her to go home and take a walk, because that would help speed things up. So she went home and went on a walk with my neighbor and my parents great dane they owned at the time.

Finally later that day after taking the dog for like the third walk of the day, it was time to go to the hospital. They went around 5:00, and my mom thought she was going to finally get her April baby.

I was born at 1:01 AM on May 1st, 1985. My mom says she should have known then that she was going to have a stubborn daughter who was going to wait and do things her own way. She's right. :)

XOXO,
me
