The reason I brought up the wind - I live on the 52nd floor of a high rise so when the wind is bad (as it is OFTEN in the winter) the whole building sways. I've literally seen the water in my toilet swish back and forth. A little scary, right? Well tonight is one of those nights and the walls and windows are creeeeeakinggggg. Luckily I'm a heavy sleeper (and so is Elle Woods!) so it doesn't really bother either of us.
I'm used to living on the 52nd floor now (I've lived here since I started law school in August '07), but my ears still pop on the elevators sometimes. Not all the time though, which now that I think about it is kinda weird.
For the most part I LOVE where I live, but there are definitely drawbacks to highrise living. Example #1 - housebreaking a puppy when taking her out involves a trip down the freight elevator, through the parking garage, and out to some gravel because there is no grass nearby.
Example #2 - when she wakes up at 4AM and has to go out and it's -10 degrees and snowing so thick you can barely see (yes, it's happened. several times).
But like I said, I think the pluses outweigh the minuses.
My parents actually bought my place (long story short - my dad is a homebuilder and thinks that renters are a drain on the economy. HATES renting. So I will live here until they decide to sell and I'm on my own, which hopefully won't be for a while), and I live here with a roommate (it's 2 bed 2 bath, so it works out fine).
Now for the fun part:
Starting off - my bedroom. Notice the pics on the wall above the bed - I had Andy Warhol-style photos done of a picture of myself. I love them... all my friends make so much fun of me and say "You would". Haha. Yep, and I did.
Up next - master bath (my bathroom). Honestly I don't think I can ever get married. How will I share a bathroom and closets with a man?! Haha.
And as you can see on the floor - there is where weigh-in Wednesday takes place. :)
I am OBSESSED with my shower because when I'm showering I can see through the bedroom out to Lake Michigan I love it. (always shower with the door open otherwise Elle freaks out and would bust it down to get to me. She has a littttleeee bit of separation anxiety!!)
Here is my pic of the Dallas skyline that's opposite the shower (you can see the corner of the heated towel rack on the left. Let me just go ahead and tell you - DUMBEST invention ever. God knows why the previous owners had one installed.)

A closeup of my beloved Big D:

And this is framed on a wall in my bedroom :)

Here's my closet (after a SERIOUS cleanup)
Up next - the breakfast nook. I had my friend's husband come over and do some handywork for me. There was a ceiling fan above the table before and I didn't like it so I had him put in a light fixture (some of the pics still feature the fan, ick).
(also - notice the snack tower filled with fruit snacks. I heart costco.)

Finished! (the red fake flower arrangement in the foreground was made by my mom. She is SO crafty and awesome).

Finished light fixture and view. I love to eat breakfast and watch the sailboats on the lake in the late summer. beeeeyoooootiful! :)

Living room: Ordered this rug from Target.com and I loooove it. I've spilled all over it and it shows nothing, and I like the contrast against the white leather (NOT my first choice - I got hand-me-down furniture!)

This is the only pic I have of opposite the couches. You can see my goofy ass guy friends and my 1990's big screen TV. Haha. I spent my "new tv fund" on a new Gucci bag, so I'm stuck with that baby forever now. :)
This is an old pic of the kitchen from the ppl who lived here before, but it still looks pretty much the same (except I have a cuter rug now!)

The mini wall between the kitchen and living room holds a dry erase board where my drunk friends doodle
And a few last shots of the view on a pretty day

And my fav. pretty sunset shotsXOXO
Absolutely one Tdf home! I cannot even imagine waking up to those views. You are living the life and hellz ya', i'd have some Andy Warhol pics done of myself too! HAHAHA

ReplyDeleteI can't get over that gorgeous view! Must never get old. Elle Woods is such a cutie.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great apt!!! I love the views!
ReplyDeleteseriously love your place. I love how open it is. Also, you win a million points in my book for having a snack tower (I think I need to make one at home). Too bad elle is so big or else you could get one of those indoor doggy grass things for those cold days. Dinsmore thinks she is dreamy.
ReplyDeleteTHOSE VIEWS!!! Breathtaking. I mean one window would be fabulous but two walls of them!??! Lucky girl :) I love that you decided to share with us, thanks!
ReplyDeleteyour views are amazing!! thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteWow, it's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! I miss City views!
ReplyDeleteThat is funny you do not like the towel warmer! I agree that they are kind of silly! In New Zealand (Where my hubs is from and I have been several times) EVERYONE has towel warmers! Even in the “crappy” old houses, you will find towel warmers! My husband tries to say how ahead they are- I just say they are wimpy! PLUS, it does not get NEARLY as cold in NZ as it does in the Northeast, or Chicago in your case! :)
the sunset pictures are gorgeous! i love your home!
ReplyDeleteWell, I am in LOVE with Chicago and extremely, extremely envious of you living where you do! Plus it's such a nice place! You are blessed :)
ReplyDeleteWooowwww gorgeous!!!! Though, I would shit my pants living that high up. My fear of heights wouldn't even let me come over to visit, haha! Especially if it is swaying in the wind!
ReplyDeleteSo very gorgeous! Love it!
ReplyDeleteElle, as always, is beautiful!
I LOVE your home! It's so girly and stylish! I'm going to Chicago for the first time ever next month for a business trip and I can't wait!
