Hi everyone!!!
Next stop: ROME!
I leave tomorrow (Thursday) evening and return on Sunday night. There are four of us going (2 girls and 2 guys)
My only request is to go to Mass at the Vatican and pick up some Pope paraphernalia for my mom/grandparents (Dad is Catholic too, obvi, I just don't think he'd be really interested in Pope paraphernalia), other than that I'm down to let the group dictate what we do.
Anyone have suggestions for must-see/must-do while we're there?! You guys have been invaluable so far.
XOXO
Go to the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. Two great spots full of awesome architecture and people watching.
ReplyDeleteoh goodness don't know where to start! i studied abroad in rome, and by far my favorite city. take a stroll down via del condotti its the main shopping street, so you will i am sure you will find that!. go late in the afternoon when the italians just all stroll about.(called the passeggiata, love it! wish americans just strolled about) there is a fantastic gelato place right beside the spanish steps, it is also famous and in all the guide books. make sure to take in the usul stuff like the pantheon, the forum. dinner in the jewish ghetto is nice, artichokes are great. eats lot of pizza. i think the best in italy (so thin and yummy!). go to campo difori (ok, also ignore that spelling too tired to think or look it up) and grab some lunch at take in the marketplace scene. my favorite neighborhood is trastevere, it has windy streets, not as much traffic, and the least touristy feel to me. make sure to get a tour at the vatican with a guide, they can sometimes help you cut the weight in line and show you so much more. it is worht spending a lot of time there. drink some wine in piaza navona. if you are really into art work go see villa borgheose (can't spell right now, too tired!), also top notch, but requires a reservation i believe. and simply love the bourgeouise park, cute rowboats and great to chill out. watch out for your pocket. oh, the tram near largo argentina is near some old ruins and filled with cats, sorta a cat sanctuary that is bizarre and interesting. we went to this really cool bar in trastever that is owned by the top italian horror film maker and filled with bizarre thigns from his movies and showing them constantly. the bars we liked i think were called jazz cafe (but not sure about that name, in piaza novona) and supper club was fun and swanky. have a blast!! so jealous!! best place on earth, it combines the birthplace of western world, ancient ruins, center of the church, baroque art, renaissance, and modern stuff too!! some people don't like it becasue it is very overwhelming, not an easy place to visit, and people do not speak english to you. Florence is more tourist friendly, but not as interesting. ok, need to go to bed and dream of returning.
