I am SO over talking about how much I hate Hillary/hippie liberal Democrats, so I think today I'll be blogging instead about my experience filling out my absentee ballot.
I requested an absentee ballot for the primary in my home state, since that's where I'm still registered to vote... I just cannot make myself be an official citizen of the state of Illinois. If I'm still here in a couple years after law school, maybe I'll do it. Until then, I'm a regular absentee voter.
Anyway, so I got my Republican primary ballot, voted for Huckabee (why not? McCain is going to win anyway... he can have my vote in November), and then started looking through all of the other primaries I could cast a vote in. Sheriffs, Judges, Senators, etc. Not knowing anything about any of these people, I decided to do some googling so I could at least make semi-informed choices.
So I get to my choice for U.S. Senator and it's John Cornyn (who I believe is the incumbent) and Larry Kilgore. So I google Kilgore and see if he's got something worth voting for....

Seriously. Scary. This guy is a freak!!!!
A few of his highlights:
- Problem: US Empire refuses to protect Texas from criminal foreign invaders.
- Kilgore's Solution: Texas Independence
- Problem: US Empire requires Texans to pay for their corporate welfare schemes. The US budget increased 35% from 2002-2006, while the Texas budget only increased 23%.
- Kilgore's Solution: Texas Independence
- Kilgore believes that Americans should not waste money on unconstitutional programs.
- What programs would that be? Social Security, Medicaid, Welfare, AIDS Relief, efforts to end homelessness.
- Kilgore also believes that Americans should not promote the tenth plan of the COmmunist manifesto - "free education for all children in public schools". He also believes that making college affordable is similar to supporting Communism.
I mean I'm a good Republican, I am all for smaller government and anti-taking from the rich to fund the poor, but the idea that we should get rid of things such as PUBLIC SCHOOLS is unfathomable! Not to mention he wants to DOUBLE the money spent on abstinence only education. Yeah, because it's really expensive to tell kids that if they have sex they're going straight to hell according to his crazy Biblical beliefs. Please, let's divert funds from things like prescription drug benefits for seniors and AIDS relief to promote abstinence-only, which is so incredibly effective.
But really, the scariest part about it is the fact that people have NO IDEA. I mean what if I hadn't googled him? What if I was like "welp, I hated that Cornyn guy, I'm gonna vote for his only Republican competitor." What about all the people at the polls tomorrow? They don't have google in the polling booth! What happens when all they know is that they don't like Cornyn?! AH! I mean I don't REALLY worry about his election, but the fact that someone this crazy could even get his name on a ballot is downright FRIGHTENING.
Now in general, I'm a big believer in the Constitution and free speech and all that jazz, but seriously... someone needs to shut this guy up. I REALLY don't think this is what the founding fathers had in mind... Yikes.
